Meeteetse Museum

Exhibits cover local history including artifacts from the Meeteetse Mercantile which was in business for over 100 years; photographs of ranching life by famous photographer, Charles Belden; a display about Amelia Earhart and her friend, George Putnam, who were building a cabin in the hills which was never finished; and the discovery of  a colony of black-footed ferrets that were thought to be extinct. The 1901 First National Bank of Meeteetse has been restored to its 1920s appearance and has a few exhibits about early banking.

The first floor of the museum is accessible. The basement, not in use for museum exhibits, is roped off but does have a stair lift. The bank building is accessible.

Parking is available on the street. Museums  44.15762, -108.87164

  1. I promise you that I've never heard of Meeteetse! But the museum looks pretty neat.

    1. We decided to stop there because so many of the buildings in Old Trail Town in Cody came from the Meeteeste area. Old Town stole their history! :D
We weren't paying enough attention when we were in Meeteeste and didn't see that the Meeteetse Mercantile was right across the street from the museum. Very cool old building. We would have peeked in the windows.
