Union Creek Campground

Located on the shore of  Phillips Lake, this campground is a little unusual for a national forest because it has 23 full hookup sites, 34 water and electric sites, and a bunch of single and group tent sites. Full hookups are rare in forest campgrounds and the fees reflect the additional amenities but there are much cheaper primitive campgrounds on the west end of the lake and boondocking opportunities across Route 7, to the north of the park. The campground has a dump station and a boat ramp but no beach area but the boat ramp and fishing pier make good swimming access points.

Many of the sites are first come/ first serve and we had no trouble finding a site on a weekday afternoon but I think that weekends are busy.

There's a trail that can be accessed from the campground which follows the shoreline for about 4 miles. It looks like there was a controlled burn recently because all of the trees have charred bark and the underbrush is gone allowing grasses to grow and a multitude of flowers to bloom.

Four of the campsites, two in the full hookup section and two in loop C, are accessible with wide paved parking pads and asphalt extending under the table and fire ring. Our campsite was not accessible and due to the hilly terrain the table and fire ring were located on a different level from the parking pad. Most of the sites on the east side of loop C are similar but the west side sites are on one level.

We walked/rolled along the trail for about 1/2 mile in both directions from the campground. It's been paved where it parallels the campground but the pavement has deteriorated so there are bumps and holes. It became too narrow at the east end and too hilly at the west end. There are steep hills where it crosses the boat ramp parking lot. For easy access park in the picnic lots which are close to the shore.

Most of the sites are large enough for any RV. Campground  44.68502, -118.02823

  1. What a bonus to have hook ups in a National Forest Campground.

    1. Yes, a bit different. The full hookups were pretty busy but there were even a couple of open sites in that loop. We opted for a shady site with just water and electric.

  2. 27 bucks for partial hookups isn't too bad these days, and worth it if the temps soars or dips too low. Your flowers are gorgeous!
