New York has a complicated system to calculate fees. Our site had a base rate of $15.00. An addition $5.00 was added because we are not NY residents. Another $3.00 was added because Moreau is a "flagship campground" (?). Then a reservation fee of $7.25 was tacked on bringing the total amount to $30.25! A lot for a state park without hookups. I would rather have a set amount for campsites instead of this system. I think $4.50 of the reservation fee can be avoided by getting a first-come first serve site which has a $2.75 walk-in charge but due to coronavirus all campers must have reservations now.
After studying all of the available sites (there are seven accessible sites, all located close to restrooms, but all were reserved) I chose site 22 which isn't very large but it is level and the hard packed ground makes rolling around easy. Campground 43.22699, -73.7085
I'm with you, why make camping fees so complicated. I really dislike the reservation system that has everyone paying that $7.25 charge. No thanks. I'll go find somewhere else to go. Besides, what's with not having any sites directly on the lake and the beach on the other side of the lake? Go figure.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's popular enough that people are willing to pay the fees. Actually, the reservation fee is not that bad if you're staying for a week or more since it's a one-time fee but aren't the people making reservations getting paid to work? Why an extra fee just for doing part of their job?
