Freezout Lake Wildlife Area is managed to provide habitat for wetland and short grass prairie birds. Over 239 species have been documented on the 12,000 acres of the area. Cool windy weather kept us from exploring outside but we did drive the road the circles the lakes. The birds must not have liked the weather either because we saw very few.
We camped in the first lot after the headquarters building but there is an specific area set aside for camping with sites lined up around a loop road. Two right hand turns after the headquarters building will get you there. Camping in any of the lots that have picnic tables and vault toilets seems to be okay.
The camping areas are fine for any RV. The road is okay too but it's very washboard. Freezout 47.66543, -112.01675
Your pictures show a dismal weather day! Bet it's a much better spot to camp if the sun is shining -- plus, then you could see more birds. Win-win!
ReplyDeleteThis is another place we have to go back to when the weather is nicer. It was a cool, wet spring in this part of the country.
