Niagara Falls
No description can match the experience of being so close to the falls - the roar of the water, the damp mist of windblown spray, the panoramic view – fantastic! Wide paved trails lead from view point to view point. Don’t miss Goat Island where you can walk across a bridge onto Luna Island and stand just a few feet away from thousands of gallons of water pouring over American Falls on one side and Bridal Veil Falls on the other. Follow the path a little farther to Terrapin Point ( steep path so wheelchair users will need to have help) and the eastern edge of Horseshoe Falls. If you have time walk across Rainbow Bridge to Canada to view the falls from different angles.
The sidewalks, paths, and curb cuts on the American side are all in good condition. Most of the city is fairly level so getting around with a wheelchair is pretty easy. The Canadian side is hilly, especially a few blocks away from the falls, and there’s even a pretty steep grade from Rainbow Bridge down to the falls viewing pathway. The sidewalks and curb cuts are usable, in most cases, but not as good as they should be. Some of the pathways on both sides are brick patterned concrete so expect a bumpy ride at times.
The city on the American side of the falls is a little shabby with few attractions. The Canadian side is much more of a built up tourist town with hotels and restaurants close to the falls and attractions like Ripleys Believe or Not . Both are scenically magnificent. We preferred just wandering around, enjoying the scenery, so we didn’t go to any of the attractions but I believe that both the American and Canadian boat rides are accessible. We did take the elevator ride ($1.00) on the Observation Tower both to the viewing deck and down to the base of the falls – highly recommend. Both sides have nice gardens to walk through but the Canadian side is more colorful and better manicured. Falls
We parked at Casino Niagara and walked/rolled everywhere. There are lots close to the falls where we’ve parked before but they’re under construction and I’m not sure if RVs parking will be permitted when the construction is completed. RV can be parked in the lot on Goat Island or in the aquarium lot. Both are about a mile away from the main falls overlooks. Parking for RVs on the Canadian side is scarce so walk over if possible.
