Hill Cumorah Visitors Center
Hill Cumorah is a pilgrimage site for devout Mormans. In 1827, according to Morman history, the angel Maroni gave engraved golden plates to Joseph Smith who translated them into the Book of Morman. The book tells the stories of a several groups of people who left Jerusalem and traveled to the Americas where they lived from 2200 BC to AD 421. Warfare eventually destroyed their civilizations.
The small visitor center has several touch screens with videos about the people in the Book of Morman and the life of Joseph Smith. There’s a walking trail and also a road to the top of the hill where a monument has been erected. A free pageant with 600 cast members takes place every July just south of the visitor center.
The visitor center is accessible. The short trail from the parking lot at the top of the hill to the monument is accessible. The long trail from the visitor center to the monument isn’t accessible because of the very steep grade.
Small RVs will fit in the parking lot backed up over the grass. Larger RVs can park lengthwise across the spaces. The road to the monument is steep, one lane, and has a sharp turn. We drove it but I don’t think that two large vehicles could pass each other because of a drop off on one side and a wall of hillside on the other. Visitor Center
