Dakota Zoo

The zoo was established in 1961 and, like most older zoos, some of the enclosures should be enlarged and updated. The larger mammals have grassy fields with room to roam but the cats and other mammals are housed in small enclosures.

The paths are level and paved or hard packed gravel so rolling is fairly easy. The zoo is small and can be seen in a hour or two.
RVs will fit in the lot if parked through the spaces or backed up over the grass. On street parking is available on Riverside Park Road but there isn’t a path or sidewalk to the zoo so rolling on the side of the park road is necessary. Zoo  46.79981, -100.80656

  1. No offence, but I can't do zoos like this, knowing the big cats are confined to such small spaces. One of these days I hope small zoos can upgrade or send their big animals to places where they can roam. Know what I mean?

    1. Yes,I hate seeing the animals so confined. Many zoos are expanding and giving the animals a lot of room to roam but small ones like the Dakota Zoo are a little behind in that aspect. In their defense though, the enclosure of the little cat in the photo is much roomier than it appears to be.
