Victor, Colorado

019
Victor, just five miles from Cripple Creek, has a short main street with more wonderfully preserved 19th century buildings. Most of them are vacant but there is a bar, a couple of restaurants, a grocery store, hotels and a museum. The drive between the two towns passes through the mining district where gold is being separated from piles of ore using cyanide as a leaching chemical.

Along the way there are also many old mine sites with abandoned buildings and mainframes. For able-bodied visitors a system of interpretive trails runs through some of the mining sites.

The museum covers the town history, focusing on mining. One room on the first floor is accessible. A ramp provides access from the street but the door is kept locked.
