Mineral Belt Trail
An eleven mile loop of wide, smooth asphalt with mountain views, mining ruins and interpretive signs make this one of our favorite bike trails. However it starts at 9,800’ and climbs to 10,600’ so we didn’t do the entire trail on this trip. Many years ago we started on the trail not realizing that it was eleven miles long and uphill half the way. We did the whole trail but we were exhausted by the time we got done. Don’t overdo it if you’re not used to high altitudes.
There are several parking areas around town where the trail can be accessed. The largest one, with room for RVs, is along US 24 where the trail crosses the highway. Look for signs. Trail
