Akron Art Museum

The museum is housed in a 1899 old post office built of brick and stone with a very modern glass and steel addition built in 2007. They look mismatched which is probably not the effect the city had in mind. :-D  The art collections are focused on contemporary art from 1850 to the present. When we visited most of the galleries had exhibits of modern art with thought provoking social and environmental themes. Overall the museum is fairly small and some of the galleries may not be opened for viewing as new exhibits are being installed.

The museum is accessible. The entrance is on South High Street which involves a downhill trip from the parking lot. The sidewalks and curb cuts are in good condition.

Parking for the museum is in the lot on Broadway. Spaces are numbered and bills or coins must be slid into numbered slots in a metal box. We parked through two spaces and paid for both. The lot is large enough for RVs but entering and turning may be difficult with a long RV. Museum  41.08395, -81.51439
