Route 305 Boondocking

The dirt roads that crisscross this area of checkerboard BLM land are used by mountain bikers, horse riders and ATV users.  A large gravel lot with an informative sign provides plenty of room for any size RV. We drove along the main dirt road to a dusty pull off to get farther away from the Route 305 and spent a peaceful night.

This isn’t the most scenic spot but it’s easy to access and very convenient to Battle Mountain. The Mormon crickets are a bit creepy though.  BLM   40.61205, -116.9904

  1. I remember those crickets from a 1950's sci-fi movie. Something about radioactivity from atomic bomb tests in Nevada causing them to grow to giant..OHMYGOD THEY'RE COMING DOWN THE CHIMN...

    1. So that's what happened! :-D
They're really big and hop around erratically so it seems like you're going to end up covered in crickets.

    1. Yep, I've wondered about Mormon crickets because of the story of the seagulls eating them and saving the crops of the early pioneers. Now that I've seen them I really don't need to see them again! :-D

  3. Some times they migrate and thousands will cover the highway

    1. We saw that this year. I thought they were grasshoppers at first. They leave brown smears on the highway because so many of them get crushed.
