The Voyage Home Museum

IMG_7916

James Tiberius Kirk, the future captain of the starship USS Enterprise, will be born in the little town of Riverside, Iowa in 2228.  In 1984 Steve Miller, a Riverside councilman and Star Trek fan, knowing that Captain Kirk would be born in an as yet unnamed Iowa town decided Riverside should be his birthplace. The city council agreed and that decision was the impetus for a two day Trek Fest which has been held every summer for 33 years.

We missed Trek Fest but since Tony is a big Star Trek fan we had to stop to see where Kirk will be born and to check out the museum. :-D  A plaque marks the spot of Kirk’s future childhood home. The small museum has a lot of Star Trek memorabilia, a few handmade displays, and some history on the town itself.

The museum is accessible. The home site is not accessible due to a rough path and poor ramps on the sidewalks that are raised several feet above the street.

The parking lot is small but most RVs will fit.  Museum  41.48068, -91.57641
