Many of the fishing access sites in Montana also have camping areas. Some charge a small fee and some, like this one, are free. This one has a couple of tables, a vault toilet, and beautiful views. We had the added attraction of friendly horses in the adjoining pasture.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I think you're too long, otherwise, I'd recommend taking your rig on the tour through The National Bison Range a bit further west of you.
We drove the camper through it on my way to Glacier, and ended up using the 2-lo for almost all of the drive.
Sooner or later, possibly tonight, I will finally get started typing up my blog entries :).
Thanks for the tip Matt. I have the visitor center marked on my map. The website says under 30' so we could go but 2-lo - wow it must be pretty steep. Maybe we'll drive the road to it as an alternative to I-90.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been nice,sunny and cool and still windy!We have a lot of mountains to cross over so I think our trip will speed up a little just in case winter comes early!
We visited it on our way to Glacier National Park and Flathead Lake.
ReplyDeleteThe road through the Bison Range is all dirt and gravel and has a large number of switch backs that go up in altitude rather quickly.
The view from the top is fairly spectacular and if you get it right, you might end up right in the middle of one of the buffalo herds.
