Noise from both the highway and the rail line is the only drawback of this little free campsite in Pampa, Texas. It has tables, grills, dumpsters, fresh water, and a dump station. There's little traffic on the park road itself.
I couldn’t find very much information about the park but I did find a photo of a sign that has since fallen to pieces. 35.52857, -100.9715
The last time I drove thru Texas on the little roads I noticed a lot of boarded up down towns... it looks like you're on the small roads, how are things looking?
ReplyDeleteWe were in Amarillo (I wanted to go to the Big Texas Steak Ranch, it was a delicious stop!) and I noticed we were not too far from Mule Shoe, Texas & it's free full hookup RV area. We'd stayed there once & I'm a sucker for "free" but it was just a bit too far out of our way.
Yeah, a lot of small towns in the west are almost ghost towns now. There just aren't enough people to keep the businesses opened. As soon as a Walmart opens within a reasonable driving distance everyone goes there. The lucky towns manage to rebrand themselves as tourist destinations but those are few and far between.
DeleteBig Texas is an experience! We stopped in years ago. It was good but now the huge, nasty looking feed lots in Texas freak us out too much and we can't eat there without thinking about the dirty, crowded condition of the cows right before they go to the slaughterhouse. :-D
