Ohio River Trail

031
The trail runs along the Ohio River, passing through downtown Wheeling. The scenery is varied, at times hugging the river, other times traveling beside roadways or skirting industrial areas. We followed the trail for a short distance by parking along the Route 2 about 1 1/2 miles north of town and walking/rolling south to downtown. Watch for interpretive signs for a quick history of the area. The trail has a good view of the Wheeling Suspension Bridge, the first bridge to be built across the Ohio River and the oldest vehicular suspension bridge in the United States still in use.

The trail is mostly flat and in fairly good condition.

RVs can be parked where we did along Route 2 or in the lot at Pike Island Locks and Dam at the northern end of the trail.  Trail

  1. Thanx for posting this -- it looks like a beautiful trail. We especially like to walk or ride alongside a river!

    1. You two are far from decrepit! :-D I've been enjoying your Hawaii posts. Back in the old days we rode our bicycles in a loop from the Kona airport to Volcanoes National Park to Hilo and back to Kona. What a vacation trip!
