Allegheny River Trail

The trail runs for 27.5 miles between Franklin Pa. and Emlenton Pa. It's paved, level, and stays mostly in the countryside as it follows the Allegheny River. The first 1/2 mile is noisy from traffic on US 322 but after that a hillside blocks the sound and the road veers away from the trail. This trail has some unusual attractions- a grass trail leads up the hill to Bilbos, an independent fast food restaurant, and there's a hike in/bike in campground. We went about three miles before turning around.

The parking lot is large enough for any RV. This parking lot is also for the Samuel Justus Recreation Trail which goes north for seven miles to Oil City where it connects to the McClintock Trail. All these trails will eventually be part of  the Erie-To-Pittsburgh Trail. There's a visitor center but we didn't check it out. Trail  41.38665, -79.81746

  1. And it's all so green! (I think we might have been on this one, but -- then again -- sometimes places run together! I'm pretty sure you know what I mean!

    1. I certainly do! This would be a good trail for your electric bikes.
