South Bend Chocolate Company, founded in 1991, is such a small business that it’s hard to believe they have 15 retail stores. The tour starts with a visit to the mixing room, moves onto molding and decorating, and finishes in the packaging department. Everyone gets a piece of chocolate and a plastic spoon to dip in a vat of melted chocolate coating. Exhibits on how chocolate is made and a museum with many cool old candy boxes and signs rounds out the experience. If you’ve already been to a chocolate candy factory you can skip the tour and just visit the free museum.
The store sells boxed candy plus loose chocolates that are seconds and therefore half price. They also have discounted holiday candies from as far back as Halloween! :-O We bought 1/2 pound of seconds and while they were good they certainly weren’t the best we’ve had.
The museum and tour are accessible.
The parking lot is large enough for any RV. Tour 41.66444, -86.29625
In a word: YUM!
