The coolest area of the zoo is Amazonia, a 45’ high glass enclosed building with plants and animals that live in the rain forest of South America. Other areas include animals from Africa, Asia, Australia, and North America. Most of the enclosures are very roomy with lush vegetation. The landscaping along the paths and around the enclosures plus a few specially planted areas make up the botanical gardens.
The zoo sits on a hill. From the entrance all paths go down so most wheelchair users will need assistance. There’s also an accessible tram which stops at each area. Most of the railing are low or the enclosures have windows for easy viewing of the animals.
The parking lot isn’t very big but small RVs will fit if backed up over the grass. On slow days larger RVs can be parked across the spaces. Zoo 37.9967, -87.60603
