Pinnacle Mountain State Park

IMG_1861

Pinnacle Mountain is the second highest point in Arkansas which isn’t saying much because it’s only 1,013 feet above sea level and only 763 feet above the local terrain. But as the highest place around it attracts a lot of people who want to climb to the top which is easily done since a round trip hike up and back is just 1 1/2 mile. The park has eight short hiking trails and two mountain bike trails. Two of the hiking trails are paved. The visitor center has a deck that provides a panoramic view of the Arkansas River valley and a small museum with exhibits on the natural and human history of the area plus a few live reptile exhibits.

The Kingfisher Trail and the Arkansas Trail are paved loops and each is under a mile in length. Both are wide, fairly smooth with gentle slopes, and travel through shady forests. The Kingfisher Trail passes by 500- 600 year old bald cypresses that grow along the Little Maumelle River bank. None of the other trails are accessible. The visitor center is accessible.

The two paved trails and visitor center are all in different sections of the park so driving is necessary. All of the parking lots are large enough for RVs. Park  34.84449, -92.46334

  1. Should have asked Tony to carry you up the mountain....I carried my youngest the first time, well, on my back for the last half of it. It is a pretty sight up there. But once this guy comes running, yes running up, then down, then back up again, and back down before we even got to the top! He made it back up again before we started back down, and someone asked him how often he did this. "Four times per week, five time up and five times down" Geezzzzz

    1. Probably. There are a lot of things to see between there and Bentonville. Any suggestions for Fayetteville?

  3. Last year we visited crystal bridge art muesum.it is north of Fayetteville. Really nice place. Seems to be very wheel chair friendly. My aunt had aalot of good back ground info on the ravine it is located in.Love the giant spider sculpture. We also saw the 1st Walmart in bentonville.
downtown Fayetteville had an art festival a few weeks before we were. I think some of the stuff became permanent. A couple of sculptures. Several murals on sides of buildings. Loved the one of the baby bears climbing the building!!!
Hilary and Bill Clinton's 1st house we passed.

  4. UofA Senior Sidewalks, listing names of all graduates...my two boys are listed there. And Crystal Bridge is a big MUST DO, as is the Walmart Museum, Devil's Den SP, Pea Ridge, and be sure to take the old highway 71 through Alma instead of the I-49, it is a wonderful drive...might even find a place to park for the night near Lake Fort Smith.

    1. Thanks Dave! Really looking forward to Crystal Bridge. We'll miss most of Hwy 71 because we're going to Russelville to hang out with friends for a few days then west to Fayetteville.
