The Grandfather Tree, at more than 1800 years old, 265 feet tall, with a
diameter of 24 feet, and a circumference of 55 feet, is one of the five widest coastal redwoods in the world. The huge size of it's double trunk is probably why it survived when so many other big redwoods were cut down.
This is a quick stop to gawk at the tree and visit the little gift shop. There's an extremely amateurish carving of a mountain lion that looks very old and some new and nicer bear carvings scattered around the grounds.
The gift shop is accessible.
The parking lot is large enough for any RV. Tree 40.01122, -123.78953
You stopped! We never have. But look at that magnificent tree -- wow!
ReplyDeleteWe had to turn around. :) It's easy to miss the tree because it's so far back from the road.
