We stayed at a hipcamp in Detroit in 2018 and liked the experience so decided to try it again. Some hipcamp sites are pretty fancy but the least expensive ones have few or no amenities which is fine with us. All we need is a place to park especially when we won't be hanging around the campsite during the day. Swamp Grass Lane was perfect for that - really cheap ($5 at night but it's since been raised to $10) and a large, mostly level, and quiet spot to park. Surprisingly no bugs!
The name is a little off-putting and it was a bit muddy from a recent rain but it's hardly a swamp. The owners have carved 7 or 8 sites out of the woods that line their long driveway. We had site 5 which is probably the nicest one. Some of the smaller sites are barely off of the driveway with just enough room to park a car. Each site is marked with a white bucket that has the number on it and a solar light inside to make the bucket glow at night if the little solar panel has received enough sun during the day. We haven't tried Hipcamp yet. Maybe someday. This one looks okay -- like you said, especially if you just plan to sleep there one night.
ReplyDeleteTony kept telling everyone that it was a swamp but it wasn't really - just the name!
