The canal runs through downtown Indianapolis with walkways on both sides to make a complete loop of three miles. Along the way it passes by outdoor art installations and four museums. There are pedal boats, gondolas, bicycles, kayaks, and surreys for rent and a few restaurants with outdoor seating.
The canal sits below street level with multiple access points from the street. About half of the access points include ramps or elevators so this map is helpful.
We parked in the lot adjacent to the Indiana Historical Society. Parking is free with admission or with a $7.00 purchase - get the ticket stamped at the admissions desk. Small RVs will fit if pulled through two spaces. Larger RVs can be parked on New York Street. The closest access point with an elevator is directly across New York Street.
