Longue Vue House & Gardens
Longue Vue was built by Edgar Bloom Stern, a New Orleans businessman and cotton broker, and his wife Edith Rosenwald Stern, an heiress of the Sears department store family. No Sears furnishing here though. :-D The house is filled with American and English antiques; needlework; intricate fabrics and wall coverings; and French and Oriental carpets. The Classical Revival style house which took three years to complete (1939 – 1942) had all the latest conveniences including air conditioning and an elevator.
The website states that the house is accessible. I’m assuming that a portable ramp is available but since Tony just pulled me up the two steps at the rear entrance I’m not sure and I forgot to ask. An elevator accesses the second floor of the house. There are also a few rooms in the house that have a step at the entrance. The gardens are partly accessible. Some of the gardens have a step and some of the paths have loose gravel.
The entrance drive is very narrow with a section that goes between two buildings. It looked too tight for our RV so the staff allowed us to park in their lot. I do not recommend taking a RV to this site. House
