Algiers Point Ferry to New Orleans
Some cities are just not RV friendly. New Orleans is one but luckily there’s a really good option. The ferry ride from Algiers Point, which is directly across the Mississippi from the French Quarter, only takes about 7 minutes. The ferry leaves from Algiers on the hour and half hour and from the French Quarter a quarter after and a quarter to so waiting time is short. The ferry stops running early though so check the schedule. A large parking lot with plenty of room for RVs is located close to the ferry. It’s a private lot and charges vary. Most of the time it’s $5.00 for the day.
Most wheelchair users will need to have some help. It’s uphill to the ferry then down a long ramp to board the ferry. Wheelchair users enter by using the vehicle ramp. Upon landing it’s reversed – uphill off of the ferry, downhill to the city streets.
Many of the sidewalks in the French Quarter have been redone with brick and have good curb cuts but wheelchair users will still have difficulty in spots because of missing curb cuts and damaged sidewalks. About half of the shops, bars and restaurants have a step at the entrance. French Quarter Ferry

Good to know! I skip NOLA all the time, because I don't want to drive in that mess... not even in a car!!!
ReplyDeleteI learn about all kinds of good stuff from other people's blogs. :-) Got the ferry tip from the Bumfuzzles.
DeleteIt's such a super easy way to get into the city so make sure you stop on your next trip along the gulf coast!
