Historical Museum of Southern Florida
It’s a bit of a journey to get to the museum. Visit on the weekend and parking is free in the surface lot on the west corner of SW 2nd Ave. and W. Flagler St. The lot is large enough for RVs parked sideway across the spaces.
There are two streets to cross to get to the museum –good curb cuts. Go past the entrance with the long flight of steps and continue down the sidewalk to the ramp. This is an ADA ramp with a good sloop, level landings and a low railing but it’s very long. It opens up to a plaza with the history museum, library and art museum.
We visited the history museum only. The first floor has changing exhibits. After viewing those, open the glass door and an elevator is on the right. The elevator will put you in the middle of the exhibit so follow the ramps up and down until you come to the beginning. Everything is fairly accessible. There are a few cases that are a little too high and four exhibits with steps - a porch of a frame house, old street car, archaeology dig and fort mockup but you don’t have to use the steps to view most of these exhibits.
