Some of the roads are rough so use caution. We saw big rigs that had made it down the hills and were camped on the shore so it's definitely doable with most RVs. Mackay Reservoir 43.95792, -113.67786

Mackay Reservoir Boondocking
Mackay Reservoir stores water for the irrigation needs of the farmers downstream. It's also stocked with trout and is a favorite spot for water sports. There's a BLM campground with 26 sites, most of which are first come/first serve. The land around the lake is a combination of BLM land, state land, and private land. Dirt and gravel roads branch off from US 93 and head down the slope to the shoreline of the lake. We arrived on a weekend and found the campground full and many of the boondocking spots taken. We tried several spots high above the shore but they were too sloped and we couldn't get level. Eventually we settled for a large pull off with a pretty lake view on the side of one of the shoreline roads. By Sunday afternoon most of the campers had left including a fifth wheel that had been parked in beautiful grassy site just steps from the water.
Just goes to show you that weekends are no fun for campers like you guys and us guys! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, we try to avoid places like this on weekends but sometimes that doesn't work. :)
