In 1959 the city of Huron commissioned sculptor Robert Jacobs to build the giant bird as a tribute to the pheasant hunting fame of the area. It stands 28 feet tall and 40 feet long. Even though the pheasant has been recently repainted and looks great, it’s very fragile. A location in Memorial Park has been chosen for a replacement pheasant that will be installed in 2021.
The parking lot is large enough for any RV. Drive a block west to see the big white buffalo at the car dealer.
Both the pheasant and the buffalo can be seen without leaving your vehicle. Pheasant 44.36962, -98.20034
How can I comment!? :-)
ReplyDeleteEvery town should have not just one but two giant animals! :-D
DeleteIsn't the white buffalo considered a sigh of good luck? As in, "Good luck not getting ripped off at the car dealership."
