The two main galleries in the museum focus on natural history and cultural history. We didn’t have very much time so we visited the cultural history gallery only which is very well done but moves fast through a long and complicated period of conflicts of Native American against other Native Americans, France against England, American patriots against England, and Native Americans against the newly formed US government. By the 1840s Native Americans had ceded all of their land and most had moved to other states which is ironic considering the state’s name.
The museum is accessible.
Parking near the museum is limited. We parked on West New York Street and cut diagonally across Military Park to the museum. The sidewalks and curb cuts are in good condition. Museum 39.7683, -86.16939
