Utah Capitol Building Tour
A total restoration of the 1909 capitol was completed in 2008. The four year project followed the original plans and opened the fourth floor to overlook the rotunda. This space had initially been closed in with a hallway and offices due to a lack of money. Beautiful murals, painted during the 1930s as part of the public works program, have also been restored. Exhibits covering a bit of the history of the state and the restoration are located on each floor.
Free, guided tours are given on the hour Monday through Friday. We visited on a Saturday to avoid the workday crowds. Pamplets are available for self-guided tours but some of the rooms such as the senate chambers are closed on the weekend.
Everything is accessible.
Two lots on the east side of the capitol are available for visitor parking. The southernmost one has accessible spaces. RVs will fit if parked through two spaces but the weight limit is low. (10,000 or 11,000 lbs) RVs will also fit in the northern one but is a bit of a trek to the capitol.
