Wreck of Peter Iredale
The Peter Iredale, a sailing ship made with steel plates on an iron frame, got caught in a squall on October 25, 1906 and ran ashore. After years of being blasted by waves, wind, and sand just a few pieces of the frame remain. The wreck is in Fort Stevens State Park but, unlike the rest of the park, there isn’t a fee to park in the wreck lot.
The wreck is not accessible due to soft sand but to get a good view make the second left at the end of the road, just before the parking lot. The spur road goes to a higher lot where there’s plenty of room for RVs to park. Wreck
