This is a small BLM campground located in one of the few places where the Mojave River flows above ground. The river is not visible from the campground but the presence of water is an ideal breeding ground for mosquitos – don’t forget bug repellent!
The campground has tables with shelters, fire rings, grills, trash cans and pit toilets.
None of the sites are marked as accessible but most are usable.
The dirt road to the campground is about 3.5 miles long and in fair condition. There are two short but very steep hills. Many of the campsites have posts lining both sides the parking area which may make it hard to park long RVs. Campground

If you don't want to use DEET against the mosquitos try lemon eucalyptus oil - it actually works and it won't melt your clothing…
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to get some oil. We carry a bottle of DEET around but never use it, then toss it when it finally reaches the expiration date.
DeleteFortunately our screens kept all but one of the mosquito out but the poor tent campers had to hurry to get covered with long pants and even snugged their hoodies down tight so as little skin as possible was available.
As of September 2018, the 3.5 mile long dirt road from I-15 to the Afton Canyon Campground has experienced some erosion damage at the steep downhill segment just before entering the canyon. Vehicles with high clearance should only been used. We ended up parking our RV at the large-group campsite located just uphill from the canyon. There is also a lose-sand section on the road within the canyon, just before the campground, where we observed a stuck 2x4 truck.
