Hardee Lakes Park Campground
I couldn’t find much information about this park so we decided to check it out in person. We were the only people camping in the entire campground! For good reason as it turned out. The park is only opened Friday through Monday but everything will change by summer because the campground is getting an upgrade. All of the sites will have water and electric hookups. A new restroom/shower building and a dump station are under construction. When all is finished the park will be opened everyday.
The campsites are fairly close together. Better planning would have resulted in roomier sites and nicer views of the water. Half of the sites are close to the shoreline of the second lake in a group of four little lakes formed from reclaimed phosphate mining pits. The other sites are located across a meadow under the trees. Some of the sites are large enough for any RV. Since the campsites are not leveled yet and do not have tables and fire rings accessibility is hard to judge.
The park website lists amenities including horse trails, a hiking trail, a handicap-accessible hiking trail, a bike trail, picnic areas, a picnic pavilion, a playground, and a boardwalk. We found the boardwalk at the south end of the second lake near the picnic pavilion. We didn’t find any of the other trails but the roads around the lakes make nice walking paths although a little bumpy for wheelchairs. Campground

I am amazed at all the little campgrounds you find. Some at super prices. Do you track your campground coast? We do and usually average $10-$13 a night for the year. That includes our membership fee.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little too lazy to figure out our campground costs. :-D It's pretty low because of all of the boondocking, 1/2 price in federal parks and blacktop overnighting that we do.
ReplyDelete$10 - $13 a night is great! We don't have any memberships. I've gone through the figures for different options several times and concluded that, with our way of traveling, it wouldn't be cost effective or practical. Good friends of ours are members of TT, ROD and some other ones. They use the campgrounds constantly and love them.
Memberships really pay off in Florida because It is hard to find economical campsites when even public campgrounds run around $40.00 a night. Hardee Lakes is $26.00 a night. We're going to stay at Pioneer Park, which is also a Hardee County park, for a week. That will be a real bargain at only $107 for 7 days but then we managed to get a few days in a couple of pubic campgrounds ( the popular ones are booked up months in advance) and we'll be paying $40.00 a night.
In response to your comment on our blog: We have one more trip down to Fort Meyer area to meet our investment company representatives who are coming out from Chicago first week of April....I think that will be it, but we never know for sure. Any idea when you might be driving through this area to leave? "IF" it does not work out this time, I know it will somewhere down the road... --Dave (GoingRvWay.com)
ReplyDeleteWe should be coming up the coast from Fort Desoto in the third week in April. Is staying in Florida this long stretching it? I love hot weather but Tony doesn't. Hope it doesn't get too bad!
