St. Augustine New Years Beach Blast Off
For a little town the fireworks display is surprisingly good. It starts at 8:30, is over by 9:00 and there are no traffic jams. We were asleep well before midnight. : D The festival is pretty small, just a short row of food stands, a few trinket booths, an entertainment stage and, on the first day of the festival, a chili cook-off with one guy sculpting ice. The kids zone inflatable play area has an admission fee which isn’t mentioned on the website.
Seven parking lots in various locations around town are reserved for festival parking. Shuttle buses runs from the lots to the festival. There’s also parking along the streets that run at right angles to A1A if you get there early enough.
None of the shuttles that we saw were wheelchair accessible. We parked in one of the lots and walked/rolled along a smooth wide bike trail/sidewalk. A good place to park either a car or RV is at Ron Parker Park on Pope Road. Take the bike trail to the festival site. Bring a flashlight because there aren’t many streetlights. Stay on the opposite side of the street from the festival, in front of the gas station, for an excellent view away from the crowd. Festival
