Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens
The zoo is in the process of incorporating a botanical garden into the zoo setting. Plants that commonly grow in the same country where the animals live will be planted along the pathways and near the exhibits. The finished sections are very nice.
The zoo is laid out with loops along the main path. Follow the route marked on the zoo map to see all of the sections and end up back at the entrance. Most of the animals are in large enclosures and seem to be well cared for.
The first section of the zoo, which appears to be older, has wooden boardwalks that have inclines. The newer sections have wide smooth paths. The first of the three aviaries has steep little bridges over a stream. Some of the fencing around the exhibits is a little high and blocks the view of visitors in wheelchairs but most of the animals are easy to see. I forgot to check on the accessibility of the train.
The parking lot is large enough for any RV. If it fills an overflow lot is opened. The overflow lot is surfaced with large loose gravel which is difficult to push through. Zoo
