Pikes Peak Highway
The pictures that I took don’t do this road or the scenery justice. It was a little overcast and rainy the day of our visit but the drive was still spectacular. The road is 38 miles round trip but since the speed limit is only 25 MPH going up and even slower on the way down expect to spend at least 2 hours, more with stops. Elevation starts at 7,800’ and is 14,115 at the top. Many sections do not have guardrails.
The three gift shops/snack bars are accessible. A short paved trail parallels the lake at Crystal Reservoir. The reservoir lot and the summit lot are gravel-help with pushing may be necessary.
Vehicles with a wheel bases greater than 19’ are prohibited on the highway. All trailers are prohibited including motorcycle and bicycle trailers. We did not see a drop off parking lot. Pikes Peak
