National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum
There are five floors to this museum but we saw the first one only because the elevator stopped working during our visit. Apparently this is an ongoing problem so ask if it has been fixed before using it. The displays we did see are about the company town of Climax where molybdenum was mined for about 40 years. Molybdenum is valuable as a hardener for other metals. The town was closed in 1965 when open pit mining became the preferred method of extracting the ore.
The museum is accessible. The town is hilly and some of the curb cuts are very poorly designed. Wheelchair users may need help.
Parking for RVs is available along the streets near the museum. A RV lot is located about five blocks from the museum. Look for signs on Harrison Ave. The streets are narrow so be careful of obstacles when turning. Museum
