Iowa State Capitol Tour

IMG_7834

Finished in 1886 after 15 years of construction using 14 million bricks, 11 types of native wood, and 29 types of marble, the Iowa state Capitol is really elaborate. It has five domes! Guided tours must be scheduled beforehand but anyone can take a self guided tour during normal business hours. Don’t miss the beautiful law library.

  The Capitol is accessible.

The Capitol is located on a hill overlooking the city. There’s very little visitor parking but short RVs will fit in the lot by the Soldiers and Sailors Monument south of the Capitol. There are a couple of accessible spaces at the ground floor entrances and a driveway for dropping off passengers.  Tour  41.5914, -93.60458

  1. As far as state capitols go, this one looks like a stunner.

    1. I think it may be the most elaborate one yet. We really loved the library but the books looked pretty dull. :-D
