Geyser Park

IMG_6641
Soda Springs, Idaho with it’s many bubbling springs was a popular rest stop for both Native Americans and Oregon Trail travelers. In 1937 men drilling for a source of hot water to supply a bath house hit a chamber of pressurized carbon dioxide gas and water unleashing a geyser that shot straight up for 150’.  The geyser ran continuously and even disrupted the flow of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park until it was capped a few weeks later. It’s now controlled by a timer and goes off on schedule every hour.

Boardwalk trails allow visitors a view from the top of the geyser mound. These trails are not accessible but the geyser can be easily seen from the parking lot.

The parking lot is large enough for any RV.

We spent the night in a small park a few miles west of town. It sits on the edge of Alexander Reservoir and has great views of the water and hills. RVs can be parked along the edges of the gravel lot. The park has picnic tables and restrooms.
