Liberty Park, Tracy Aviary & Museum of Utah Folk Arts

Liberty Park is a much used and much loved 80 acre park just a few miles south of downtown Salt Lake City. A road around the perimeter provides plenty of parking spaces leaving the center opened for picnic tables, walking paths, playgrounds, a swimming pool, ball courts, an aviary and a folk art museum.

The walkways are smooth, wide, all accessible and total about 2 miles around the perimeter and through the center.

The folk art museum is located in a 1853 house built by the original owner of the land, Isaac Chase, who also operated a grist mill (which can be rented for events) and made the pond that supplied power to the mill. The museum is very small and free to tour. The first floor is accessible.

The aviary got its start in 1938 when a local businessman, Russell Lord Tracy, donated his bird collection. It’s grown to include 400 birds and 135 species. The aviary is very accessible with smooth walkways and beautiful landscaping. The Bird Show Theater does not have spaces for wheelchairs which means wheelchair users will be seated in the front aisle partially blocking access.

RVs no longer than 25’ will fit in the perimeter parking spaces. Accessible spaces are available. Longer RVs can be parked in the swimming pool lot but that lot may fills early when the pool is open for the season.
