Atlanta History Center

n
Of the five permanent exhibits in the museum we spent the most time in the well presented Civil War section which covers both sides of the war from a political, personal, and tactical point of view. Other exhibits include southern folk arts, the 1996 Olympic games, and golf legend Bobby Jones. Twenty two acres of gardens and two historic houses are also located on the grounds. We were surprised that there were no exhibits about Atlanta itself but one is being planned – opening in 2016.

The museum is accessible. We didn’t have time to visit the gardens or the houses but we were told that the first floor of the Swan House is accessible but the farm house is not.

Parking is very limited.  A few handicapped spaces are located at the museum doors. These are wide and long enough for small RVs – 25’ and under – so that’s where we parked. Additional parking is located in a lot down a steep hill but it’s not big enough for large RVs.
